Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities. Sabre Explorer Scout Unit offers the opportunity for members to gain the Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver and Gold Awards. This section aims to provide extra support and information to parents and explorers undertaking the award.

Silver Award

  • Volunteering (helping other people in the local community – More Information
  • Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest) – More Information
  • Physical (sport, dance and fitness) – More Information
  • Expedition (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot) – More Information

Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition 

6 months, One Section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months. Plan, train for and complete a 2 day, 1 night venture

Gold Award

  • Volunteering (helping other people in the local community) – More Information

  • Residential (a purposeful enterprise with people not previously known to the participant) – More Information

Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Residential, Expedition 

6 months, One Section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months.Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nightsPlan, train for and complete a 2 day, 1 night venture

participants (who do not hold their Silver Award) must undertake 18 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Skills / Physical Section
